TEHRAN -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said the arrogant global powers, which have sustained a loss due to the unity of all Muslims and their interest in the Islamic Revolution, are trying to promote religious dogmatism to foment discord between Shia and Sunni Muslims.
Eid al-Ghadir provides a model of Islamic government, and Shia Muslims will maintain their beliefs about the Ghadir event but will not allow their views to become a source of discord in the Muslim world, Ayatollah Khamenei told thousands of people at a gathering commemorating Eid al-Ghadir on Wednesday. The day marks a historical event in which the Prophet Muhammad (S) announced that Imam Ali (AS) would be his successor at a place near Mecca called Ghadir Khum.
Pointing to the tireless efforts of the Founder of the Islamic Republic, the late Imam Khomeini, to prevent disputes among the world’s Muslims, Ayatollah Khamenei said everyone should be aware of the arrogant powers’ dangerous plots to divide the Islamic world.
He congratulated the Iranian nation and all Muslims on the occasion and asserted that understanding the message of Ghadir will allow the Islamic ummah to travel in the right direction.
The Ghadir event shows the importance of government and the unification of religion and politics in Islam and provides a great lesson for all Muslims, the Leader noted.
“Ghadir teaches us that Islamic societies should be administered by those who regard Imam Ali (AS) as a model,” he added.
Stressing the need to be vigilant about the plots to create sectarian divisions between Shia and Sunni Muslims, Ayatollah Khamenei said, “Deep belief in the leadership of Imam Ali (AS) after the Great Prophet of Islam is the basic principle of the Shias and the Shia Muslims will retain this belief, but they won’t let it become a source of differences in the Muslim world.”
“We have known for a long time that a center affiliated with the global arrogance has been paying for the publication of books containing false accusations.”
Ayatollah Khamenei said the publication of such books is helping the U.S. and Israel realize their objectives and urged authors to write books containing solid and logical reasoning, such as those written by the Shia scholars over the course of history.
Commenting on certain forces’ efforts to convince some Arab leaders to oppose the nuclear rights of Iran and other goals of the Iranian nation, the Leader said this is the most that the enemy can do, but these Arab states have ‘reservations’ and are not prepared to become pawns of the U.S. and the Zionists in their confrontation with Iran.
The arrogant global powers may hatch any kind of plot, but if the Iranian nation and other Muslim nations are aware, the hegemonic powers won’t be able to realize their hostile objective of weakening the Islamic ummah, the Leader stated
